Comment on “Journalists and the truth under threat”.

An excellent article that highlights the mess that is communications today. You have truth seekers on the one hand and on the other those who want what they believe or want, to be ‘seen’ as ‘the truth’.

The problem is so many people are default ‘followers’, rather than scrutinising the reality behind the words. It’s easier for them to blindly believe in ‘something’. This naivity and gullibility is exploited by those cunning, ruthless and dishonest enough to have no qualms about bending the truth to their benefit. But, responsibility has to be taken by all of us to question and challenge what we are told and to seek the truth in the evidence that is there. To not blindly believe all we hear, but to consider the source and other channels of information and evidence. Social media platforms in using algorithms to increasingly feed people an ever more narrow spectrum of opinion and ‘truth’ has definitely lead to more extreme views. But on the positive side you are right citizen journalists have been able to shine a light in dark places and long may they be able to spread news of what happens ‘on the ground’.

The strength of your articles is that you provide context and evidence to support what you write about. It’s well researched and not someone shooting from the hip.
