A second man has been charged with historical child sex offences allegedly committed in a western Sydney pinball arcade nearly 40 years ago.

The 72-year-old was arrested at a Newcastle hospital last month and charged with seven counts of indecently assaulting a boy, police said on Tuesday.

Police will allege he sexually assaulted at least two children, including an 11-year-old boy, at the Homebush pinball arcade between 1980 and 1982.

The man was refused bail at a bedside hearing and will appear in Burwood Local Court on May 17.

The breakthrough follows the arrest of an 82-year-old over the same allegations in January.

The older man was charged with two counts of buggery and three counts of indecent assault with a male child.

He appeared at Windsor Local Court in later February and will face also Burwood Local Court on May 17.

Police called on anyone with information about the incidents to contact them and said inquiries were continuing.
