Japan is pushing to ratify the International Labour Organisation’s treaty banning the worst forms of child labour during its current session of Parliament, which would make it the 68th country to ratify the 1999 pact. The ILO treaty bans forced labour of children and prevents employers from using children for prostitution, the production of pornography or drug trafficking. It calls up on members to draw up legal steps to enforce the treaty, including penalties for violators once it ratifies the treaty.
