Stop extra-judicial killing”, Philippine Misereor Partnership said in a statement seeking government’s immediate investigation of the killing of an anti-mining activists in Salcedo, Eastern Samar. Canayong, was stabbed to death in broad daylight on 1 May 2012 by an unidentified assailant. He is a known active anti-mining activist opposing the mining operations in Salcedo.

There are now an estimated 100 million plus Christians in the world’s most populous country, with Catholics alone accounting for about 12 million of this number. Many of these are new converts who, eager to fulfill the Great Commission, are busy evangelizing their fellow Chinese citizens. The Chinese Communist Party has been doing some recruiting of its own in recent years, opening its ranks to intellectuals, business owners, and other previously suspect classes – even capitalists! Still, the 86.7 million formal members of this decaying “faith” – most of whom are Communists in name only – are now outnumbered by a growing and vibrant Chinese Christianity.

slavery in UK report

Slavery levels in UK ‘higher than thought’
There could be between 10,000 and 13,000 victims of slavery in the UK, far more than previous estimates, analysis for the Home Office suggests.
Modern slavery victims are said to include women forced into prostitution, “imprisoned” domestic staff and workers in fields, factories and fishing boats.
The figure for 2013 is the first time the government has made an official estimate of the scale of the problem.
The Home Office has launched a strategy to help tackle slavery.
