MANILA – Anti-human trafficking stakeholders joined hands to address concerns on cyber trafficking and other forms of human trafficking in the Philippines, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands said Monday.

The stakeholders will be in Iloilo City for the second leg of the 2014 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) Summit, which is in line with the National Children’s Month this October.

“In this CSO Summit, concerns on cyber trafficking and the youth’s vulnerability will be tackled, as well as initiatives to curb online child exploitation,” the embassy said.

The theme for the summit is  #UsingTech2EndChildTrafficking.

The summit is scheduled for October 9 and 10 (Thursday and Friday).

It is the second forum spearheaded by the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), which partnered with global human rights organization International Justice Mission (IJM) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

“The Netherlands Embassy shares the goals of these three NGOs in anti-human trafficking efforts in the Philippines,” said Joop Scheffers, charge d’ affaires of the embassy.

“The goal of this leg of the summit is to bring together civil society members, technological companies, and student leaders who can work together in combating the exploitation of children,” he added.

The Netherlands, he said, has a strong partnership with the Philippine government and civil society for anti-human trafficking efforts.

“While the internet has been used to exploit children, information and communications technology has also become instrumental to combat human trafficking,” the embassy said.

The first leg of the CSO Summit, held in August in Manila, was organized by IACAT with the Blas F. Ople Policy Center (BFOC) and focused on labor trafficking, specifically of overseas Filipino workers.

The third summit, to be organized by the Visayan Forum Foundation Inc. (VFFI), will happen in November in Davao and highlights, in turn, the women’s sector.
