Fundraising in Ireland for Yolanda survivors.

The chairperson of the Irish charity Preda-Ireland Philip Cribbin has been doing his share in fund raising for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan ,(Yolanda in the Philippines). Preda social workers are buying and re-packing relief supplies and making regular deliveries and distribution of relief goods directly to the hands of the evacuees. They were airlifted out of the devastated area of Tacloban after their villages ,homes and families were wrecked by the massive tidal surge and 240 kilometer winds of the most powerful storm ever to hit the Islands. Philip is well connected with sporting greats like Shane Long and Hollywood actor and legend Martin Sheen ,both supporters of Preda. Philip has in his possession signed memorabilia that will be auctioned on eBay.
Martin Sheen Hollywood legend and his wife Janet Tempelton and son Charley have donated generously to the victims of the typhoon. All have the suffering of those being helped by the PREDA team very close to their hearts. They were among the first to respond to the Preda appeal for help. thirty sacks of good quality rice were immediately purchased and delivered to the victims in the Northern area of Cebu Island and Bantayan island where the Preda team went to access the damage and meet the victims and deliver help. Father Shay met and interviewed the Mayor and wrote a moving account of the devastation for his weekly widely distributed newspaper column.
In order to raise awareness and funds for those affected Irish soccer international, Shane Long has donated his signed player issue Irish jersey which he wore in the game against Kazakhstan on the 15th of October 2013.A one in a lifetime chance for this unique piece of sporting memorabilia.
Martin Sheen donated a number of items to PREDA Galway to be sold including a signed Galway Film Fleadh tee shirt from 2011 which he signed when promoting his Tipperary based film, “Stella Days”. Both items will be listed on Ebay and the sale will close midnight on Sunday the 15th of December.
The items will be express posted or collection can be arranged in Galway.

Other Irish supporters have donated directly to Preda -Ireland and the Columban fathers for the Preda appeal and relief work which is still on-going . Others have done their good works at fund raising and Karla Healion, of the gift shop Five & Dime in Dublin’s Dame street and Anne Hederman of Openheart center had a musical evening and sale of goods for the victims and raised ¤522.40 Euro.Everythign help greatly and these donations go straight to help the victims. The most recent distribution was at the “Tent City”an evacuation center in the grouds of the Villamore elementary school. Preda team gave a seminar wherein the 45 families shared there problems and comments . Child protection advice was also given .Children are being trafficked and gone missing during the tragic destruction of the homes and the evacuation.(see photos). They are working with children orphaned as a result of the typhoon and are working with The Philippine Misereor Partnership to develop and implement a long term help in the disaster area where small farmers have been wiped out. They have lost everything.
The Preda team will be extending more long term recovery and rehabilitation help in the worst hit provinces in the coming weeks.
