Throwaway Children After Base Closes
When the Military base was pushed out in 1992 thousands of Filipino-American children, fathered by US servicemen, were abandoned with the common law wives of the sailors.
|
PREDA Foundation began a campaign for them and called them the Throwaway Children. A TV documentary called by that title documented their plight. PREDA filed a Class Action suit in the United States for the women and children against the US Navy. This led to benefits for the mothers and children after more lobbying in the US congress. |
Today PREDA has social services for these children as well as personality development training to build up their self-esteem and overcome the racist stigma.
