THE PHILIPPINES (TIER 2 – WATCH LIST)

The Philippines is a source, transit, and destination country for persons trafficked for the purposes of sexual exploitation and forced labor. There is internal trafficking from rural to urban metropolitan areas. Filipino women who are trafficked for sexual exploitation to destinations throughout Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and North America, are often lured abroad with false promises of legitimate employment. The Philippines is a transit point and destination for victims from the People¹s Republic of China (PRC).

"Code of Conduct" on Sex Tourism

Striking a blow against the sex tourism industry that entraps tens of thousands of children, UNICEF on May 12, 2004 joined the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and the international advocacy group ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes) in launching a new “Code of Conduct” for the North American travel industry. The code is designed to protect children from commercial sexual exploitation.
