Australian child sex tourists target Fiji

Recent reports show Australian child sex tourists are targetting Fiji in the wake of this year’s civil unrest. Australians have been identified as the main culprits in Fiji’s burgeoning child sex tourism industry. The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre has called for tougher laws against child sexual abuse.

Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse in Detention Centres

Claims of child sexual abuse and child rape in the South Australia Woomera Detention Centre, detaining illegal immigrants, continue to surface. Allegations include that a 12 year-old boy was sold for sex by his father to other refugee detainees in return for cigarettes. The father is also accused of raping his son in February or March 2000. A former nurse at the privately run centre alleges the abuse was not investigated and was covered up. The child was not examined in hospital and the case was not referred to any external agency.

8 doomed convicts spared

EIGHT convicts were spared the lethal injection when the Supreme Court commuted their sentences to reclusion perpetua, a jail term, of 40 years or less.

Of the eight, a father who raped his daughter four times and a guardian who raped his ward “a hundred times” escaped execution because of the prosecution’s failure to cite the father-daughter and guardian-ward relationship on the charge sheet.
