Almost 36m people live in modern slavery – report

Nearly 36 million people worldwide, or 0.5% of the world’s population, live as slaves, a survey by anti-slavery campaign group Walk Free says.
The group’s Global Slavery Index says India has the most slaves overall and Mauritania has the highest percentage.

The total is 20% higher than for 2013 because of better methodology.
The report defines slaves as people subject to forced labour, debt bondage, trafficking, sexual exploitation for money and forced or servile marriage.

Pakistani Christian couple brutally killed by mob for alleged ‘blasphemy’

A Pakistani mob beat to near-death a Christian and his pregnant wife for her alleged ‘blasphemy’, then threw them both into the large kiln where they both worked as bonded laborers.

The incident happened on Tuesday 4th Nov, some 60 kilometers from Lahore, the capital of Punjab in central Pakistan – in Chak 59 village, Kot Radha Kishan.

Child sex abuse review: impossible to prove a cover-up.

A review of the Home Office’s handling of paedophile ring allegations in the 1970s, 80s and 90s has ruled it is impossible to say whether there was a cover-up.
The probe by Peter Wanless – chief executive of the NSPCC children’s charity – looked at how the Home Office dealt with information handed over by the late Conservative MP Geoffrey Dickens, as well as other allegations in 114 missing, lost or destroyed files.
