PREDA Vision

We envision a just, free, peaceful and prosperous society that serves the common good, respects human rights, especially the rights of children. A society built on faith, virtue and spiritual values that overcome poverty by the fair distribution of wealth, opportunity and resources. It restores and preserves the environment and builds up self-reliant communities through the participation of the people and respects and restores the culture of indigenous people.

Our Mission

• To work for a system of justice that will empower women and children and the poor and protect their rights.
• To protect the weak and the defenseless especially women and children from sexual abuse and exploitation of every kind.
• To support marginalized producers with development assistance, interest free loans, skilled training, and marketing through Fair Trade.
   

Childhood For Children (CFC-girls)

Rescuing children and youth from brothels and domestic abuse. Rescues children from sexual abusive situations in homes or in the streets and brothels. This project is providing residential home for girls complete with therapeutic recovery programme with emotional expression therapy and family therapy counseling. It builds up the child’s self-esteem, confidence and personal dignity. It empowers them to stand for their rights and seek justice. There is also formal and non-formal education provided, values formation, spiritual upliftment based on affirmation and mutual respect. The therapeutic family fosters dignity and self-esteem, confidence and participation. Healing comes through love and understanding. Pursuing the abusers and finding justice is a part of the healing process.

Legal services

For children accused of crime, helping victims of physical and sexual harassment and abuse. Providing research and legal assistance in the prosecution of their abusers.

Rescue Every Child Today (REACT)

This team visits jails and works on the cases of children in conflict with the law. Rescuing them from the subhuman conditions of prisons all over Central Luzon and Metro Manila where they are jailed with adults. The project provides residential center with therapeutic activities, trainings, non-formal education and legal assistance.

Street Child Education Early Kontact and Outreach. (SEEKOUT)

Helping street children in dire circumstances, providing fresh food, clothes, counseling, non-formal education, legal assistance, protection from police and tanods, harassment, medical services, outings, parties, entertainment clothes and friendship. (A new home is planned for those asking to leave the streets.)

Public Education and Preventive Seminars (PEPS)

Provides specialised integrated workshops and training seminars by a team that conducts daily seminars through the provinces to elementary and high school teachers, social workers and community and church leaders for the prevention of child abuse, drug abuse and the HIV-AIDS by using handouts, posters, video showing and direct people youth participation.

Special Human Rights Education (SHARE)

Lobbying projects to the barangay communities, college, and business community on child protection and legal procedures in child abuse cases. Training volunteer “Guardians ad Litem” (RA 7610) to be appointed by the court to be legal guardians of children in need of legal protection and help, lobbying for the Juvenile Justice bill, cyber-law against child pornography and legal and prison reform.

Research, Advocacy, Information and Networking (RAIN)

Dissemination through articles, pamphlets, newsletters, public speaking engagements, global awareness building in the Philippines and abroad, through media (radio and TV), and working with journalists and broadcasters. By using the internet and networking with NGOs and other agencies here and abroad for lobbying governments, letter writing campaigns etc., the impact is multiplied. By mass mail outs and extending through other partner web sites and mail lists and the media many hundreds of thousands are reached. International awards strengthen the credibility of the data.

Indigenous peoples assistance community training (IMPACT)

(a) Helping organise indigenous people’s leaders for dialogue and community action for environmental protection and development. This project hosts meetings between IP leaders and government officials and military to mediate conflict over ancestral lands.

(b) It establishes tree nurseries and provides at least a thousand (2 meter tall) saplings yearly planted by the indigenous people and volunteers. There are special scholarships for the youth of the 3 communities participating in the project.
Scholarship for Youth (SCHOLAR)

Specialised education in nursing assistance, social work, and computer training for disadvantaged youth and in particular Fil-Am youth. The computer training is a high standard course conducted at the Preda computer laboratory with 20 units and is certified by TESDA and Microsoft through the LEARN Foundation. It also provides learning opportunities for high school students and a preparation course for skilled computer professional to take the Microsoft international qualification examinations.

Internet Safety Campaign (INSEC)

National and international safety advocacy campaigns for Internet safety. This project campaigns to persuade Internet Service Providers to block access to child pornography over the Internet and for computer companies to make their products safe for children by providing free powerful filters to protect children from being contacted by stalkers and pedophiles and from accidentally accessing pornography.

Spiritual Renewal

PREDA works to promote spiritual renewal & transformation to strengthen Filipino dignity and self-esteem. It works for social and economic justice for the poor and the oppressed. PREDA personnel lobby legislators and government to enact just laws, improve the system of justice and protect human rights and to make the betterment of the poor and marginalized a national priority.

Reintegration of Children

When the children recover from abuse and sexual exploitation, and when it is safe and in their best interests they are reintegrated into their home and community. Aftercare extends for another year. Educational benefits continue or job opportunities are provided when possible. Many other abused children and their parents in less threatening circumstances, are helped by PREDA through counseling and education, legal, financial and livelihood assistance.

Youth Empowerment Program and Theater group

Youth development is the primary focus of PREDA’s services. An effectively organized youth movement, called AKBAY, trained and assisted by PREDA, promotes children’s and youth’s rights, gives peer group seminars on HIV-AIDS and drug abuse prevention.

A professionally trained theater group presents musical dramas in the Philippines and tours in Europe, Canada and Australia. Their presentation raises public awareness and discussions about the social problems that lead to child abuse, child prostitution and sex tourism. The youth formation program reinforces self-esteem, moral values and develops leadership qualities.

PREDA Fair Trading for the Marginalized

In response to the global system of exploitation and injustice that causes poverty and exploitation, PREDA provides marginalized producers, small farmers and cooperatives skills training, product design assistance and interest free production loans. In cooperation with Fair Trade importing organizations and World Shops the producers have access to the export markets and earn better prices. Producer’s rights are protected and working conditions monitored. PREDA helps hundreds of poor families stay together and prosper in greater dignity through Fair Trade.

Dried Fruit and Juice Production – Mangoes

PREDA Fair Trade assists small-scale fruit farmers improve production, encourages organic and chemical-free production and processing and opposes genetic manipulation. Some producers are enabled to remain debt free by means of interest free loans from PREDA when needed. They get the best prevailing prices and a steady market. A professional partner of PREDA dries the fruit without chemical preservatives or additives. By buying mangoes in volume, PREDA helps to create a bigger demand for fresh fruit. This raises the price of fresh mangos benefiting the farmers and weakening the power of price fixing cartels. The PREDA Fair Trade supports the planting of mango and other fruit trees. These trees hold topsoil, create an ecosystem and protect the environment, besides providing valuable income to farmers.
