GERMAN CHILD ABUSER CONVICTED
It is not often that we get the conviction of a foreign child sex abuser and trafficker in the Philippines. But after almost two years, Konrad Weber, a German national from Berlin, has been found guilty of sexual abuse of children in Gingoog City, Northern Mindanao and has been sentenced to 8 years in jail. He has served three years already so he could be out in five years. There is no confirmation yet that he has filed an appeal.
Preda Foundation has been fully committed to support the child victims during the trial for three years and continues to provide financial assistance for their education since they are extremely poor. The convicted Weber was found to be making payments to the parents of the child victims. The Preda director and social worker went there to Gingoog for counseling for the children and their families with the DSWD. Preda has since then been regularly sending educational assistance for the victims.
Weber and another German male companion is well known in the city to have visited the area and came to know and befriend many children mostly boys for the past 12 years and has many victims.
Weber is facing other charges of child sexual abuse in Butuan City where he trafficked children from Gingoog City and where he was caught in a hotel with boys ages 11 to 13 years old in a compromising situation and was arrested and charged. He is on trial in Butuan for these charges. Preda continues to monitor the case there and sends educational assistance to the child victims. The children have recovered and are going to school.
