Fr. Shay Cullen wins the 2004 Radharc Awards

A film about children’s rights campaigner, Fr Shay Cullen has been won the Radharc Award 2004.Entitled ‘Fr Shay Cullen: Taking a Stand’ and produced by Annette Kinne Andec Communications, the documentary was filmed on location in the Philippines, Germany, Britain and Ireland.

The religious programme award was presented by Pat Cox, President of the European Parliament at a ceremony in Jurys Hotel Ballsbridge, last Friday. The. ceremony itself was preceded by a reception and lunch.

The Radharc Jury, chaired by professor John Horgan of DCU, also highly commended ‘Congo: Heart of Africa’ (produced by Jerry O’Callaghan of Any News Inc) and Commended Cardinal Secrets (produced by Mary Raftery of RTE). Over 40 entries were received for this years competition.

The Radharc Award was established in 2002 for a television documentary programme of outstanding quality that addresses national or international topics of social justice, morality or faith. The inaugural award was presented in 2002 by President Mary McAleese.

The Radharc Award honours the memory of the late Fr Joe Dunn, cofounder of Radharc which produced over 400 television documentaries on social and religious issues at home and abroad between 1962 and 1996.
