Children cry for stolen pets -slaughtered for the dogmeat trade.
December 2015

The Photos with this article maybe upsetting to some readers but they are the photos of truth. The cruelty done to our pets hurt people and especially children and the pets we come to love. When Winnie the cute happy tail-wagging adorable pet dog at the Preda children’s center at Kalaklan, Olongapo went missing some time ago the children cried and asked when is she coming back.

They asked questions for days, none of which I could answer then. “Is she still alive, can we find her, we love Winnie she is our friend”. When I said I don’t know they cried all the more. They loved and cuddled that lovely animal. Winnie may have ended up as dog meat.

And so it is with thousands of pets in the Philippines they are lured away from the loving homes locked in small cages and sold as guard dogs or sent to the slaughter. Dogs and cats too arehumans’ best friend and our pets deserve a decent life as we are called to respect and love all of nature. Most Filipinos are outraged and do not eat dog or cat meat but some do. We ask pet lovers to protest. Preda Fair Trade is supporting the good, just and ethical trade in the world and opposes any trade that hurts animals especially whathurts our pets.

Here in Kalaklan, Olongapo City its very distressing to hear the non-stop yelping and pitiful crying of these lovable pets day and night. They are cruelty caged and perhaps tortured to make them savage guard dogs. When the dog meat buyers come they are sold and transported to Baguio or other places for killing and eating where the practice is common. We appealed to the authorities to investigate the Kalaklan dog abuse and free the caged and tied dogs but to no avail. However good Mayor Ruben Paulino of Olongapo can be persuaded to stop it. We just have to ask him.He is available on Facebook and www.olongapocity.gov.ph.The international non-profit Network for Animals (NFA),is campaigning to end this cruel trade. Please share this concern with your friends on facebook.

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Caged pets on the way to the slaughter for dog meat

There is an estimated half a million dogs killed every year for dog meat many are people’s pets and stray dogs that are captured and sent to the slaughter house and the dining tables of Baguio reported several restaurants who serve dog meat. Visitors are advised to ask carefully what meat dishes they are served in the restaurants.
The campaign “saynotodogmeat” is gaining ground they claim there are “at least 25 dog meat restaurants and four slaughterhouses in Baguio, seven dog meat traders in Laguna and Batangas, and two slaughterhouses in Pangasinan. Unfortunately, there are many more underground entities involved in the industry throughout the Northern provinces”.

The international non-profit Network for Animals (NFA), a ),has been campaigning against the dog meat business and the slaughter of the dogs

The campaigners to save our pets says the dogs that are captured are transported in brutal cages and most die along the way as they are made suffer with their legs tied over the backs and tin cans cover their noses and mouth to stop them whining and yelping. Dead dogs are dismembered along with the live ones in the slaughter yards. There is no evidence of any dog slaughter house in Olongapo City but it thought to be a capture and collection area for the dog meat buyers .

The pets are slaughtered, pet lovers protest!!

According to the campaign organizers they say “Behind closed doors, dogs are clubbed, their throats are cut, their fur is scorched off with a blow-torch, and their bodies are dismembered”. It is illegal in the Philippines as dog food is forbidden to be sold in Manila since 1982 and a Animal welfare Act No. 8485 law passed in 1998 forbids it. The anti-Rabies Act (RA 9482 imposes tough penalties on dog meat traders.

However laws are no barriers to Filipinos determined to circumvent them which is common practice. The rule of law is not a high priority with the government unless the interests of the politicians and business elite are threatened. We could save many pets for this horrible suffering. Write to Mayor Ruben Paulino on Facebook and www.olongapocity.gov.ph and share this article with your friends save our pets and stop the Kalaklan caging of the yelping crying pets.
