The life of an aborted baby is nothing, but its flesh is prized

When Maria, 16, sent me a text message a few weeks ago asking if she could come to the Preda refuge for children I knew she was abused on the edge of despair. She was frightened, alone and abandoned.

With social workers I went to a secret location and from the shadows she ran to our van and was safe at last.

Maria had been sold to a sex club by her mother and when she fell pregnant, the madam forced her to have an abortion, all too common in the notorious Philippines sex trade.

The victim is not only the helpless living baby but the mother as well. Maria had been deeply affected but is slowly recovering and starting a new life.

The trafficking of children in the Philippines has been roundly condemned by Unicef in a recent conference in Manila, it is as bad as Thailand and poverty is no excuse for parents to sell their children into the sex industry.

The official blind eye ignores the child abuse and prostitution of children but the widespread abortions too.

The deliberate killing of the human foetus is one of the most uncivilized and devastating acts of humankind. It is a denial of the value of life itself. For ending the life of the child is nothing. They say it is just a blob of flesh and placenta.

But if ever you see the remarkable videos of the ultrasound images of a foetus, it is a living baby with eyes, hands feet and in some images showing emotion-smiles of contentment or grimaces of discomfort. The baby feels, moves and has its being. Nothing can justify killing a child.

It is abhorrent and now is reaching new heights with reports that aborted fetuses are being chopped up to be used in the "beauty" industry - in fact the ugliest business imaginable. Foetal stem cell extracts are sold as "youth injections" that are supposed to renew the facial skin of wealthy ageing divas.

The young women in the Ukraine who are persuaded to have abortions are paid $200 for the fetuses. Then the babies are chopped up and sold in Russia for as much as $9,500 each. Hurray for capitalism that has conquered all, everything is for sale.

The doctors and officials are in cahoots in allowing the abortions and the sale of foetal tissues. Cosmestic treatments using such material are banned in the Ukraine and Russia, just as abortion and prostitution is banned in the Philippines, nevertheless the crime flourishes wherever there are customers ready to pay and officials "on the take".

The obsession with looking young is a multi billion dollar global business. And the fashion that drives it if often racist. Adverts in Manila magazines push how best to bleach tanned or brown skin with this or that cream.

What about the billions of non-white skinned people, have they no beauty? Are they then by implication ugly? They are being told to be ashamed of themselves for being of inferior colour.

Killing the unborn for so called beauty injections and skin bleaching are abhorrent, immoral and racist trends. They must stop or be stopped. [End]
