A DOCUMENTARY about the work of Universe columnist Fr Shay Cullen has won a top television award.
Fr Shay Cullen - Taking a Stand, produced by Annette Kinne of Andec Communications has beaten more than 40 other entrants to win the Radharc Award 2004, one of Irish television's top awards.

Filmed on location in the Philippines, Germany, the UK and Ireland, the documentary profiles. the Dublin-born Columban missionary, an internationally recognised children's rights campaigner with an impressive track record.

The Radharc Award was established in 2002 for "a television documentary programme of outstanding quality that addresses national or international topics of social justice, morality or faith", and this year's award was presented by European Parliament President Pat Cox at a ceremony in Dublin last week.

The award honours the memory of the late Fr Joe Dunn, co-founder of Rqdharc which produced 400 documentaries on social and religious issues between 1962 and 1996.

As well as being a busy parish priest, Dublin-born Fr Shay set up PREDA, which works with street children and their families, and has campaigned for many years to protect children from being exploited by sex tourism.
