GUARDIAN ANGEL GLOBAL AWARENESS TOUR

Foundation, Inc. Filipino Youth Theater...
The Truth Behind the Mask

Is Canada a leader in creating global havoc? The Truth Behind the Mask asks this very question. Summer 2002, Rainbow of Hope hosted a tour of 9 Filipino actors ages 19 to 24 in Western Canada. They were trained by the PREDA Foundation and AKBAY professional theatre in the Philippines to give a message of social injustice through the medium of theatre. The troupe did 27 performances in 7 weeks, more than doubling projections, informing and touching the hearts of 3200 Canadians. An overwhelming success, the young Thespians received standing ovations throughout the tour.
The musical drama told a fictional story, based on true life experiences of corporate careless, environmental disaster, the international sex trade industry, the exploitation of women and children and beauty of the human spirit and its need to discover justice. Following an environmental disaster in the Philippines, the people in the affected region are demoralized as their local economy is devastated. To add insult to injury, local young women are offered "new jobs" so they can help support their families. But the jobs are phony and the children are enslaved and forced to work are prostitutes. As the play develops, the heroes and villains are exposed. We discover the sad environmental legacy left by the Canadian Corporation, "Placer Doom". We are left to reflect: Is Canada a leader in global exploitation or a leader in human rights?
