FIVE ORGANIZATIONS PROSECUTED UNDER IRISH RADIATION LAW

It has been revealed that five organizations were successfully prosecuted in Ireland during 1999 for offences under the Irish radiological protection legislation.
According to the annual report of the Radiological Protection Institute none
of the incidents in question resulted in significant radiation exposure.
Radiation from Electric magnetic fields, generated by electrical transformers,
power cables and even radio and cellphone antenna and broadcasting masts is a
serious health hazard to humans especially children. Research findings indacarte
the radon gas can interact with
electromagnetic fields becoming a potential cause of cancers and other sickness.
Such cables and masts must be kept safe distances from homes, schools, and workplaces. The institute also said that it was seriously concerned that remedial work had only been carried out on a low number of domestic dwellings with high radon levels.
