Prestigious German Human Rights Award for Preda

The City of Weimar, in North East Germany, has awarded its prestigious Human Rights Award to Shay Cullen and the Preda Foundation in recognition for it's work defending and campaigning for the rights of abused Filipino women and children. This award recognizes the difficulties and obstacles placed in the path to hinder and obstruct the work.

Preda Foundation was established in 1974 as a private and independent non-government organization for all people irrespective of religion, race, social status or belief. It achieved international recognition and in addition to the Nobel Peace Prize nomination, the

December 2000, International Human Rights Day. Pater Cullen will
address the assembly with an acceptance speech to be broadcast in all Germany.

The Philippines is seen as fulfilling it's International commitments to the UN Convention on the rights of the Child. Pater Cullen was a delegate to the committee writing the convention in 1989.

The prestigious award is to be presented in Germany on Human Rights Day 10 December 2000 in the presence of the Weimar City Council and other national government personalities and the International Press.

People's Recovery Empowerment and Development Assistance Foundation Inc. (Preda) is well known throughout Germany. It is nominated for this award by Government departments and NonGovernment organizations for the work defending the Human Rights of women and children. This, despite the great difficulties f rom trafficking syndicates that exploit women and children for sexual exploitation.

Preda cooperates closely with international legal tribunals Interpol and the UN Commission on Human Rights headed by former Irish President Mary Robinson, a fellow country person of Pater Cullen.
