Mayor Filed US$ 1.25 M Libel Suit Against PREDA

The Mayor of Davao City in Mindanao, Ben de Guzman, filed
a libel suite for US$1.25 million against Preda because of an e-mail
letter campaign against the shooting of 2 street youth and harassment of
other youth and children by a suspected "Vigilante" death squad. One of
the suspects was seen around city hall .
The letter appealed that the mayor take action to bring the killers of
two youths to justice instead of going after the advocators. The mayor
said that he was libeled by the letter and filed the charges. Preda is
mounting a strong defense and the NGOs of Davao are building up support
for PREDA and circulating a petition for the mayor to withdraw the case.
