We are surrounded by electricity, microwaves, radio signals. They all emit radiation of one kind or another and if we are exposed to them there is that real danger that they can effect our health. These are the invisible rays that scientists are studying to determine just what effect they have on the body's nervous and immune systems. In this modern world where there has been a remarkable improvement in the life expectancy of the middle and upper classes in development nations, because of greater availability of modern medication. Yet the rate of death from cancer and heart disease is dramatically on the increase. Even in the Philippine cancer and heart disease are become mainline killers after violent death.
The poisoned food chain is one of the most likely culprits too. On World Environment Day I could not find any article that examined the state of the modern food chain. The other most likely culprit of modern causes of illness and death is the presence of strong electromagnetic radiation fields coming from the electrical cables and and radio and microwaves that are increasingly surrounding us in our homes ,schools and on the street.
Last independence day I was planning to write about the nature of freedom and one of the things that struck me was that freedom is much more than a state of sovereignty for a nation. The Freedom to be ourselves, for every person to realize full human potential and free to live a healthy and long life are equally important.
Some say we cant have it all. Fast food buffs have to take the risks of chemical death ally in a bun or a bag. But it is not only junk food wherein there lurks unseen chemical cocktails but in practically all prepared and processed foods.
Coloring, additives, preservatives, long storage and poor hygiene can make that tasty looking meal into a mouthful of trouble. Cancers develop when our body chemistry changes. And as the famous man said we are what we eat. At least our bodies and brains are.
Without the natural nutrient of non-chemically grown vegetables and fruits our body is left open to cancer attack. We are at risk over a period of years as our immune system battles the cell invaders out to destroy us. In our blood stream there is this deadly battle being waged daily. This is a natural process and goes on in all living creatures. Our blood cells fight back against the invaders mounting a renewed defense every day and this defense is our immune system. But should the blood cells run out of strength and are deprived of the nutrients and positive healthy chemicals that they need to fight and win we are on the road to an early death.
Those vital nutrients supply the blood cells with their ammunition so to speak to fight the cell invaders. With the weakened immune system of modern junk food eaters no wonder The HIV/AIDS virus could triumph so quickly. Most of those protective chemicals come from vegetables and fruits. Our ancient ancestors in the evolutionary chain survived and thrived because they were basically vegetarians and they evolved immune systems based on a diet of plants. If we change this we are in trouble. Few people eat fruits and vegetables nowadays in the amount they should and what they do eat are laced with pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
It is a year since I became involved with this particular issue when the National Power Corporation erected pylons huge and cables along the highway near the PREDA Children's center. To protect the children and ourselves we launched a protest but Mayor Kate Gordon would not permit a safer route. But to her and her husband Dick Gordon's eternal shame they had the cables diverted from the government property they claim as their own and sent the cables past the Children's home. Thus sacrificing the health of the children for their own safety while telling the public there was no danger at all. The NPC accommodated the demands of the Gordons and made the diversion at great cost to the public. That is where your tax money is going.
So protection for our freedom to live a healthy life, free from poisons and radiation and corruption is one of the important indications of true Independence, freedom from, and freedom to be. For this we must constantly battle because like cancer cells political evils attacks our freedom daily and we must resist.
